June 2003: First sponsored by Shyam Agarwal.
October 2003: Sponsorship transferred to Dhananjay Gokhale, the current sponsor and President.
2004:
1. Chapter membership fees decided.
2. Chapter logo finalized.
3. Chapter charter agreement signed.
4. Chapter bye-laws decided.
5. A discussion session on PMBOK 3rd Edition was held.
6. Chapter membership around 140.
2005:
1. Bank account opened.
2. Steering Committee formed.
3. Chapter membership dues received from PMI.
4. Chapter membership around 500.
5. Membership Certificates distributed.
2006:
1. Monthly seminars started (Jan 2006)
2. Chapter’s Yahoo groups started & current membership is 2500+
3. Elections held (July 2006)
4. Chapter has recognized & joined TEAM INDIA (Oct 2006)
5. Chapter Brochure launched (Oct 2006)
6. Chapter Quarterly Newsletter “On Target” launched (Oct 2006)
7. Participated in NA Leadership Institute Meeting in Seattle & PMI National Congress 2006 (Oct 2006)
8. PMP / CAPM Discussion Forum launched (Nov 2006)
9. Celebrated International Project Management Day (Nov 2006)
11. Shantanu Bhamare, PMP selected as content provider & content reviewer for next version
of PMBOK 4th Edition. (Dec 06)
2007:
1. Participated in Leadership Institute Meeting in Hong Kong (Jan 2007)
2. Participated in Team India Leadership Summit in Hyderabad (Jan 2007)
3. Elections held (Mar 2007)
4. PMP Preparatory Workshop launched (Jul 2007)
5. The Winner of 2007 PMI® Component Award for Component of the Year (Chapter Category II) in the world (Oct 2007)
6. Participated in Leadership Institute Meeting in Atlanta (Oct 2007)
2008:
1. OnTarget 2008 : 3 days National Conference on Project Management, 3 tracks – Leadership, Academic & Professional, one of it’s kind
2. Our Vice President is recipient of Volunteer Of The Year 2007 Award given by PMI USA for his leadership & outstanding commitment to PMI Pune chapter and PMI activities. He will be recognized at Leadership meeting in Denver, CO, USA in October 2008

Nurture for excellence!!
Dear Members,
Indeed it is a great pleasure personally for me to be part of the new BOD (Board of Directors) and exciting times ahead for all of us during the next year 08-09.
07-08 was very eventful year for the chapter and at the outset we would like to put on the record our sincere gratitude to the 07-08 BOD team for placing the Pune chapter on the international scene and achieving distinction of becoming the "Best Component of the year 07-08".
The new Vision for the next few years has been discussed amongst the new BOD group. The theme Line for 08-09 will be "Nurture for Excellence".
The significant aspects are enumerated below for reference:
• To promote message of need for "Professional Project Management" activities in the region by way of innovative / participative approach from all the members and Corporate entities
• To ensure that Pune Chapter becomes the role model for everyone to follow especially in Asian region
• To ensure that Chapter members contribute outstanding efforts to make their individual projects a sure shot success by way of deploying PMI (USA) Professional Project Management Concepts & Methods
• To promote Project Management as a functional discipline in Engineering & Management schools with active participation and support from PMI Pune Chapter in days to come
The New Year brings to all of us new opportunities and new challenges. We have discussed many issues / new initiatives in the new BOD meetings during the last two weeks. The main objectives and priorities cover:
• To increase membership by undertaking new drive for membership generation
• To increase awareness about PMI Pune activities in locations apart from Pune such as Nasik / Kolhapur / Aurangabad/Goa etc
• To ensure better fund generation for the chapter through PMP courses and sponsorships
• To ensure better participation of all the members in chapter activities (Undertake Leadership Development sessions for all the members through planned schedule)
• To ensure transparency in all the activities of the chapter
It is one of our endeavors to make Pune as the centre of activities for PMI International for the days to come, especially for Asian initiatives.
I would like to thank all of you for your active support in the past and look forward to continued support & contributions from all members of the chapter. I am confident that, together all of us will achieve our set goals- both short terms and long term!!
I would like to appeal to all the members that together let us make "08-09" a memorable year for PMI Pune chapter!! Nurture for Excellence!
