Hello. I’m Greg Balestrero, president and CEO of Project Management
Institute.I wish I could join you at OnTarget 2010, because I have learned
something of value from every visit to Delhi office, I learned the tradition behind the lamp-lighting ceremony. I said then: “We light this lamp to respect knowledge as the greatest form of wealth. May our efforts help add to India’s wealth of knowledge and talent.” We recognize knowledge again, as a critical focus of the Pune-Deccan PMI chapter. The vision of the chapter leadership is to become “a regional platform for accumulating, sharing and cultivating project management knowledge, and nurturing expertise and excellence.”
Knowledge -– shared knowledge -- and excellence are at the heart of
PMI’s mission worldwide. It is PMI’s knowledge strategy, for example, that is revolutionizing the way knowledge is created and shared worldwide. Our new online communities of practice enrich collaboration and communication with the global reach of the Internet and will ultimately create an entire modern library of best practices. Whether locally focused or globally dispersed, knowledge development is a cornerstone to the future of our profession.
I’d like to recognize Pune-Deccan Chapter President Girish Kelkar, Vice President Shantanu Bhamare, National Congress Director Narendra Kumar Verma, and the others who have been planning this event for months. This chapter was named PMI Component of the Year in 2007, and it’s clear that today’s leaders are determined to keep it among India’s
best.
Remember, the quality and impact of project management grows with the professional and personal growth of every practitioner. Your “collaboration and communication” at OnTarget 2010 - learning, teaching, sharing old interests and discovering new ones
- is itself a “critical success factor” for the future of project management. So let
your light shine brightly, and best wishes for a successful meeting!
Sincerely yours,
Gregory

Message from the PMI Component
Mentor, Western Asia
Region - Mr. Ramam Atmakuri
Dear Members of PMI Pune Deccan Chapter and fellow Professionals,
Congratulations
on completion of yet another action filled successful year of operations. Since
the inception six years back, your chapter made significant progress on various
fronts and won global recognition and accolades. The Leadership of your
President Mr. Girish Kelkar was recognized in PMI globally through the Component
Leadership award that he received in PMI Global Congress at
Orlando in October 2009. This is something to be really
proud of.
It is always a pleasure to be associated with the passionate team and the
volunteers in Pune Chapter Board. They always strive to forge relationships with
other chapters in India and abroad and bring visibility to your own chapter as well as to our nation. True to the vision set
out for the chapter, you reached industries beyond IT as well as SMEs in Pune
city and its proximity to advocate the importance of Project Management
profession and the value it brings to the table. On Target Conference held in
2009 was dedicated to Infrastructure Management domain is only one example of
your outreach.
It remains a challenge to demonstrate the value of project management to
industry, academia and Government. The onus is on all of us as PM professionals.
You made those first steps towards this already. I encourage you to continue in
this exciting journey and make a positive difference to our nation.
Keeping in mind these high levels of curiosity, we are planning the sessions in
the form of question and answers. Generally a project is presented in the form
of a presentation; however we are breaking this rule.
Thank You for the opportunity to share my excitement with you about your
chapter.
I wish you all success. It will be my pleasure to help you in any way I can.
Best Regards
Ramam Atmakuri

Message from the Chapter President- Girish Kelkar
Dear Friends,
Seasons Greetings and the best wishes for very Happy, Prosperous & Peaceful
2010!
Hope this New Year brings prosperity and happiness to all the members of PMI &
their family members.
This year we are planning our National Conference in Feb 2010. The theme for the
conference is “Collaboration & Communication”. Professionally speaking this is
an important topic and I am confident that we will receive overwhelming response
from our members and associates for “OnTarget 2010”
“Communication & Collaboration” have become the watch words for every CXO in the
world today. The mind boggling changes in the world economic order have resulted
in ever changing rules of the game for all industrial activities the world over.
Without proper communication and collaboration with all the agencies involved in
the eco-system around us, it has become difficult to manage the operations of
any business activity, big or small, local or international. Keeping in view
this important aspect we have chosen the above mentioned theme for the
conference.
I am happy to inform you that eminent speakers and thinkers from a diverse
segment of the industry have agreed to participate & share their experience in
our conference. Their thoughts and guidance will be very useful for all the
professionals, especially Professional Project Managers.
This year we are also setting up new initiative to give special awards for such
organizations & individuals that have contributed significantly for the welfare
of the society in a diverse range of activities. Such awardees will be
felicitated through the PMI Pune Chapter on the 14th Feb at the annual National
conference. I am confident that work carried out by these professionals will
give an insight about their unique contributions and the way they have managed
to convert their dreams into reality.
The chapter has made significant progress in various initiatives taken up by all
of us. Without active support from all the members we would not have been able
to make such remarkable progress over the last few years. This year (3rd year in
a row) we have received yet another prestigious award from PMI
USA, “The Component Leadership award for Girish Kelkar
President PMI Pune Deccan India
Chapter”.
I am personally grateful to all of you for the active support received in all
the endeavors taken up by the chapter. I am confident that we will continue our
journey towards “Nurturing Excellence” in every walk of life for all of us.
With warm regards,
Girish Kelkar

The proposed conference is an honest Attempt to...
- Bring forth the facts behind challenging project situations and ways to deal with them
(which many of us do not know even being the end users)
- Learn from the mistakes and new innovative approaches developed by the industry leaders and
cultivate the culture of empathetically seeking new insights for project
management.
-
Develop a open mind set that is essential for survival & growth of organizations in the dynamics ever changing Business Environment
.
